🐧 The Speedy Gentoo Penguin!

Hey there guys! It’s Cataleya here and today we are going to learn about a bird that is SO speedy! Also one of my favorite birds: the Gentoo Penguin!

Here are 5 facts:

1. 💨 Super Fast Swimmers!

They are one of the fastest penguins in the world! They can swim up to 22 kilometers per hour (km/h), which is about 14 miles per hour (mph)!

2. 🎩 Easy to Spot

You can recognize them by the white stripe on their head, kind of like a little headband! (I once mistook a plush I had for a Gentoo… but it was really an African Penguin!)

3. 🐧 Big Penguin Energy

They are the third largest penguin species, after emperor penguins and king penguins.

4. 💕 Pebble Gifts!

Like a lot of penguins, Gentoo penguins give pebbles as gifts to build nests! It can also be a way of showing affection… like a tiny penguin proposal!

5. 🌿 Home Style

Even though they live in cold places like Antarctica, they actually like to build nests on rocky or grassy areas instead of snowy ones!

💙 My Experience!

I love Gentoos! Last week I was at SeaWorld at a penguin tank where the penguins dive in from the enclosure. A Gentoo swam toward me and it looked so cute!
