Hi guys! It’s Cataleya! Now it’s time for the second article of the day! Our last one was about the Common Raven, and now we’re moving on to another Halloween bird: the Great Horned Owl!

Here are five facts:
If you ever hear a bunch of angry crows cawing together, they might be mobbing a Great Horned Owl!
Why do they do that? The crows have a good reason the Great Horned Owl is one of their biggest predators!
These owls are fierce hunters that can catch animals as big as other birds of prey, like ospreys, falcons, and even other owls! They’ll also eat smaller animals like mice, frogs, and scorpions.
When clenched, a Great Horned Owl’s talons are super strong it takes 28 pounds of force to open them! River definitely couldn’t do that… maybe that’s why he freaks out when predator birds are nearby! 😅
Great Horned Owls have extra soft feathers that keep them warm in winter and help them fly silently, sneaking right up on their prey in the dark!
That’s all for my second Halloween bird! 🎃 I hope you liked learning about these spooky, awesome owls!
