Hello! It’s me, Cataleya, and today we’re doing two articles to make up for the one I forgot last week… oops! 😅 Our first bird of the day is the amazing Sandhill Crane!
Here are 5 awesome facts:
Dance masters! Sandhill Cranes are famous for their dancing skills. Courting cranes stretch their wings, pump their heads, bow, and leap into the air in a graceful and energetic dance.
Super smart chicks! Baby Sandhill Cranes can leave the nest within 8 hours of hatching and they can even swim!
Long-distance travelers! During migration, these cranes may travel more than 200 miles
a day, flying up to 35 miles per hour.
Ancient birds! Fossils found in Nebraska show that cranes have been around for about 10 million years, making them one of the oldest living bird species on Earth.
Staying strong! Even though they face threats like habitat and wetland loss, Sandhill Cranes are still doing great and aren’t close to extinction.
I love Sandhill Cranes! I see them all the time near my house and their chicks are so cute! 🐣 Although… one time, I almost got attacked by one! I stood too close, and it got mad, screamed, and jumped at me.😱 Luckily, there was a net on our patio, so it just bounced off the net and I was safe! 😅
That’s all for now, bird buddies! 🐦✨Thanks for reading my article about the amazing Sandhill Crane! I hope you learned something new (and maybe laughed a little at my crane story 😅). Don’t fly away just yet there’s another bird coming up next!
