Hi guys! It’s Cataleya! Like last post, we’re doing another rainbow bird: the Lilac-breasted Roller!
5 Fun Facts about the Lilac-breasted Roller:
The lilac-breasted roller could have totally been called the “rainbow roller.” It has about 8 colors: green, white, black, yellow, turquoise, dark blue, reddish-brown, and of course lilac. That’s one colorful bird!
During their mating flight, these birds zoom up about ten meters (33 feet) into the air, then swoop down super fast with their wings closed.
Their calls are loud and harsh some people say they sound like a steam train! 🚂
Even though they aren’t scared of humans, they avoid places like cities and farms. They like to stay wild and free. They are from South and Eastern Africa.
The lilac-breasted roller has lots of nicknames, like Mosilkatze’s roller, fork-tailed roller, and lilac-throated roller.
Oh my gosh! I think these are some of the prettiest birds ever! Why are they even called just “Lilac”? They look like a rainbow flying in the sky! 🌈 I’ve seen them in videos, and at first I thought they were too colorful to be real… but they are!

That’s it for today, bird buddies! The Lilac-breasted Roller is proof that nature is the best artist. See you next time for another awesome bird adventure! 🌈🦜✨
