Hey there bird buddies! It’s Cataleya here, and since today is Three Kings Day, we’re learning about a bird that looks like it walked straight out of a royal palace… the Peacock! 🦚👑 With feathers that shine like jewels and a tail that looks like a crown, this bird is truly fit for a king. Let’s fan out some amazing facts!
Here are 7 facts:
Peacock feathers were often kept in palace gardens, because people thought they were royal and magical.
The peacocks we know and love are boys. The girls are called peahens, and they are more brown and don’t have the fancy tail feathers.
It takes about 3 years for a peacock to grow its long, wonderful tail feathers.
Peacocks are the national bird of India. 🇮🇳
For a peahen, that cool crest on her head is actually like a sensor! When a boy peacock shakes his feathers, the girl can sense the vibrations. How cool is that?!
Peacocks and peahens can fly! Even though it doesn’t look like it, they can fly short distances, usually up into trees.
Some peacocks can be fully white! This happens because of something called albinism, which removes their color. Unfortunately, albino peacocks can sometimes have poor eyesight.
