Hey there guys! It’s Cataleya here, and I haven’t really done an article in a while because I was sick, but I’m better now. Since it was the 4th of July, I’m going to write about the Bald Eagle! The icon of America 😄
Here are 5 facts:

1. They used to be endangered back in 1963! But people helped protect them, and now they are no longer on the endangered species list 😄
2. They aren’t called “bald” because they look bald. The name comes from the old English word “balde,” which means white.
3. They are great at fishing, but sometimes they steal food from Ospreys.
4. Have you ever heard a bald eagle scream in movies? It sounds like a loud screech—but that’s not actually their real sound. That sound is usually a Red-Tailed Hawk! Bald eagles actually sound kind of squeaky, almost like a rubber duck 🦆🦅
5. They often use the same nest every year. Their nests can get extremely heavy—some weigh over 2,000 pounds (910 kilograms)!
6. It’s illegal to pick up a bald eagle feather off the ground. You can face up to 1 year in jail or a $100,000 fine—even if it naturally sheds! (A bit dramatic if you ask me 😒)
I think bald eagles are so cool! And want to know how you can find out more facts about them?
There’s a live stream on YouTube called Friends of Big Bear Valley. Just search “Jackie and Shadow Bald Eagles” on YouTube. It shows a bald eagle nest live!
Right now they have babies, and they already flew out of the nest! They sometimes come back, but soon they will leave forever 😭
